6.1-inch 2018 iPhone won’t launch in red, new report claims

A new report from Makotakara claims that the upcoming 2018 iPhone (the 6.1-inch model in particular)

would be available in five colors at launch: White, Black, Flash Yellow, Bright Orange, Electronic Blue,

and Taupe/Gold. Of course, the names of these colors were translated from Japanese so the name final

names might be different. Makotakara’s report contradicts the one from long-time Apple analyst

Ming-Chi Kuo, who reported that the iPhone would be available in grey, white, blue, red, and orange.

The only colors that the reports have in common are orange, white, and blue.

Supply chain sources claim that the new iPhone’s colors will be based on the colors of the iPhone X’s

current lineup of leather cases. Considering Apple has been waiting until later in the life-cycle of the

iPhone for a Product RED release, we had doubts this iPhone would launch in red at the starting gate.

The last iPhone to have more than four colors available at launch was technically the iPhone 7, which

offered 5 different finishes – of course two of these were black (matte and piano black) but the iPhone 5C

was the last handset to come in five drastically different and colorful finishes.

The iPhone X was never offered in gold. Either way, it’s nice to see a phone maker release colors that

aren’t so conservative.
